The Worth of Souls Is Great

Doctrine and Covenants 18:10 Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God

Jesus died for you.
  • Doctrine and Covenants 18:11 For, behold, the Lord your Redeemer suffered death in the flesh; wherefore he suffered the pain of all men, that all men might repent and come unto him.
You are priceless.
  • Isaiah 13:12  I will make a man more precious than gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.
He sent his son for you.
  • John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
God loves your soul.
  • Alma 24:14 And the great God has had mercy on us, and made these things known unto us that we might not perish; yea, and he has made theses things known unto us beforehand, because he loveth our souls as well as he loveth our children; therefore, in his mercy he doth visit us by his angesl, that the plan of salvation might be made known unto us as well as unto future generations.
He knows his sheep.
  • 3 Nephi 18:31 But if he repent not he shall not be numbered among my people, that he may not destroy my people, for behold I know my sheep, and they are numbered.
You are a child of God.
  • Psalms 82:6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
God knows you.
  • Luke 12:6-7 Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings and not one of them is forgotten before  God?    But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  Fear not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
God loves you.
  • Doctrine and Covenants 138: 3 And the great and wonderful love mad manifest by the Father and the Son in the coming of the Redeemer into the world.
  • 1 Nephi 11:17 And I said unto him: I knoweth that he loveth his children; nevertheless, I do not know the meaning of all things.
God will find you.
  • Luke 15:4 What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?
  • Luke 15:10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

Doctrine and Covenants 18: 15-16 And if it so be that you should labor all your days in crying repentance unto this people, and bring, save it be one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy with him in the kingdom of my Father!   And now, if your joy will be great with one soul that you have brought unto me into the kingdom of my Father, how great will be your joy if you should bring many souls unto me!

President Thomas S. Monson, Ensign July 2009:
  • "My dear brothers and sisters, ours is the responsibility, even the solemn duty, to reach out to all those whose lives we have been called to touch.  Our duty is to guide them to the celestial kingdom of God....  As we succeed, as we bring a woman or man, a girl or boy back into activity, we will be answering a wife's or sister's or mother's fervent prayer, helping fulfill a husband's or brother's or father's greatest desire.  We will be honoring a loving Father's direction and following an obedient Son's example.   And our names will forever be honored by those whom we reach."
President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, New Era May 2010:
  • "We cannot gauge the worth of another soul any more than we can measure the span of the universe.  Every person we meet is a VIP to our Heavenly Father.  Once we understand that, we can begin to understand how we should treat our fellowmen."
